Black Wings For Hiddleston And Paquin
Joining Elijah Wood in new noirTom Hiddleston's dance card is well and truly marked in the near future, what with Thor 2 and Jim Jarmusch's "crypto-vampire love story" Only Lovers Left Alive. But he's just added one more jig: Hiddleston will be teaming up with Anna Paquin for the noirish Black Wings Has My Angel.Based on a slice of 1950s pulp fiction by Elliott Chaze, the story involves a tough guy with a shady past mooching across the pre-freeway American landscape with a beautiful ex-hooker ("She had the face of a madonna, and a heart made of dollar bills," runs the blurb). The pair execute a daring armoured-car robbery, but their love/hate relationship starts to dangerously unravel in the aftermath.Chaze never quite became a household name like James M. Cain or Jim Thompson, but is much admired in in-the-know circles, and could boast a fan in Ernest Hemingway.Hiddleston will play anti-hero ex-con Tim Sunblade, with Paquin as his dangerous squeeze Virginia. The film has been developing slowly for several years, and had Elijah Wood attached to play Sunblade back in 2009. Reports this morning seem to suggest that Wood is still aboard, but if Hiddleston is indeed Sunblade, the role earmarked for Wood is currently unclear.Mexican director Alfonso Pineda Ulloa will make his Hollywood debut with the film. He's also one of three credited screenwriters: the other two are Christopher Peditto and the David Lynch-approved Barry Gifford (Wild At Heart, Lost Highway).Shooting starts in September. And for more Hiddleston, check out our recent webchat.

Oscar season spotlights disconnect
It certainly is surreal throughout honours season to look at studio chiefs applaud the winning pictures, since fundamental essentials same movies that they'd formerly switched lower. When an out-of-the-box film like "The King's Speech" strikes pay grime, professionals will invariably confide it was an "accident," even an "inadvertency." Like its budget was under $100 million and it is plot didn't emanate from the Marvel comicbook -- hence it needed to apply for "indie" money. The fundamental irony of Oscar season is it has all of the trappings of Official Hollywood however the honours themselves speak another language. This is exactly why probably the most dramatic method to energize the Academy awards this season could be turn the whole ritual to the brave souls who really set up the assets to create "The Artist," "Hugo" or "The Iron Lady." In order to stars like Kaira Pitt, George Clooney and Meryl Streep who not just behaved within their films but visited the pad to create and market them. (Streep even led her fee to construct a brand new museum praising the accomplishments of other women.) In order to Steven Spielberg, whose company shipped "The AssistanceInch and who also produced in "War Horse' the nearest factor for an old-fashioned studio picture.Indeed "War Equine" represented a well known fact that the generation of filmmakers has basically forgotten: that films like "The Godfather" or "Dr. Strangelove" or "Relation to Endearment" or "Nashville" were once mainstream studio pictures. Once they were honored throughout honours season, the studio professionals congratulated simply because they, too, had take their butts at risk to determine them through. So think about an Oscar show created by Harvey Weinstein and directed by Spielberg and located by Clooney and Pitt with Graham King and Scott Rudin telling some war tales and Uggie your dog carrying out a dance number. The rankings will not be distinguished, but a minimum of the show is a true representation from the real Hollywood. That's, the actual anti-Hollywood.The strategies of 'Service' Here comes another book subtitled "The Key Sex Lives from the Stars." It's surely a weary genre, but this book has stirred a feeling of mystery and expectation. Like it had been compiled by an 88-year-old ex-Marine named Scotty Bowers, who has turned into a mythic estimate Hollywood's gay subculture. In the heyday from the '50s and '60s, Bowers was the best fixer -- the guy who allegedly arranged sexual liaisons for the kind of Spencer Tracy, Cary Grant, the Duke of Windsor and other people passing through town who wanted a gay adventure. He states have arranged lots of female escorts for Katharine Hepburn too.Bowers' book, released lately by Grove Press, is entitled "Full Service," an imaginative title reflecting the truth that Bowers' activities were resides in a service station in the center of Hollywood. Its cover carries endorsements from the kind of Gore Vidal and Griffin Dunne and also the book was welcomed with a lengthy and felicitous story within the Sunday NY Occasions. There'll be also a Vidal-located book party now in the Chateau Marmont where Bowers is going to be available.Does it deserve this kind of attention? Surely Bowers (and co-author Lionel Friedberg) are skilled title-droppers and spare no sexual detail, however i always cringe after i read lurid reviews about lengthy-dead celebs that aren't around to protect themselves. The subject of sexual ambiguity itself is becoming overexploited: Try Searching any superstar and also you encounter a sideshow claiming to provide inside "gay" details about anybody from Will Cruz to Matt Damon to George Clooney. To Sonny Bowers in the prime, every superstar was on the face gay aside from Bowers themself who, while turning gay methods, resided having a lady, were built with a child, after which married another lady with whom he presently lives. Bowers documents his encounters with great specificity -- including Walter Pidgeon's proclivities -- and takes the readers inside probably the most fascinating "moments" from the period. He was asked to George Cukor's mythic salons, hung by helping cover their Tennessee Williams, advised Dr. Kinsey on his sex surveys and attempted to assist Errol Flynn together with his consuming problem. The issue here is, while Bowers appeared well traveled, he describes his adventures inside a kind of relentless monotone -- a guy who, just like a sexual Zelig, has seen everything but cannot capture the color or comprehend the nuance. His dedication to delivering "full service" appeared completely tiring at that time, but his plan to the readers -- in order to the reminiscences from the stars he describes -- appears seriously available to question. The shark has two heads. So let us all, the shark has two heads!! Intel's mobile moves
Will.i.am is moved by Intels presentation at CES.
Amid appearances from an array of executive partners and none other than hip-hop artist Will.i.am, Intel president and CEO Paul Otellini demonstrated a new generation of high-powered mobile devices, including smartphones, Ultrabooks and prototype hybrid notebook-tablets, all powered by next generation Intel chips. Otellini drew loud applause with his long-anticipated announcement that Intel chips are coming to smartphones, heralding the arrival of phones with power and speed akin to that currently found in laptops during his keynote on Tuesday at CES.But the overarching theme of Otellini's speech, from the Venetian hotel, was the Ultrabook, the slender, high-powered category of laptop computers driven by Intel chips, especially the next generation Ivy Bridge processors.Liu Jun, senior VP of Lenovo, took the stage with Otellini to announce that the first Intel-powered smartphone, the Lenovo K800, will go on sale in China during the second quarter of this year. It features a 4.5-inch 720p screen, and can stream wirelessly to TVs. The phone will run on China's Unicomm's network. "We are transforming Lenovo from a leading personal computer company to a leading personal Internet device company," Liu said. The K800 will be on display at the Intel booth and the Lenovo demo area. Otellini moved on to demonstrating Intel Reference Design prototype smartphones. Staffers streamed Disney's "John Carter" trailer in high-def from the phone to the ballroom's cinema screens; they showed up smooth and clear. The prototypes feature an 8 megapixel camera that can shoot 10 frames per second at full resolution 1080p video, six hours of video playback, 45 hours of audio playback, eight hours of talk time and 14 days of standby time. Sanjay Jah, CEO of Motorola, came onstage to announce that Motorola and Intel have entered into "a multi-year, multi-device strategic partnership around mobile devices and smartphones." The first Intel-based Motorola smartphones are due this summer.Will.i.am delivered the big finish to the event, joining Otellini to talk about "The Ultrabook Project," in which he will tour the world, collaborating with local musicians to make music on Ultrabooks. "I have a whole year planned," said Will.i.am. "We're going to 12 countries, 12 songs, 12 collaborations, 12 philanthropic ventures trying to help relieve these inner cities that are underdeveloped." The next stop on the tour is Mexico City. He also announced the Japan song from the project is available for download on the Intel site -- but only 10,000 downloads are available before it's removed.Asked how technology has affected music, Will.i.am said, "It's amplified the creative community. Travelling, sharing, socializing -- that is the most beautiful thing. The music business has never seen that. Is that the music or technology? I say it's technology.""In the music industry, you make a song and two months later it comes out. That's over," he added. "We used to make music in studios and listen to it on the radio. Now we make music on a computer and listen to it on a computer." He compared the Ultrabook to the big boom boxes that people used to let others know what music they liked. "Today it's the Ultrabook. This is the new ghetto blaster."Dell vice chairman Jeff Clarke showed off his company's ultra-light XPS13 ultrabook, which is "always on, always connected," similar in that respect to a smartphone. Intel staffers also demonstrated a family of prototype hybrid laptops that fold into tablets with touchscreens. One demo showed an Intel phone used as a game controller with a game running on the notebook. Another showed an online purchase made with near-field communications -- the purchaser needed only to tap his Visa card on the touchscreen to enter his data and swipe his card. The tech underlying all this is the "Ivy Bridge" processor, with its 22 nanometer architecture, which makes possible very tiny, efficient, powerful chips. Otellini said Intel is within sight of an even more powerful 14 nm architecture. Of interest to Hollywood is another feature on the hybrid laptops: With a Thunderbolt connection, one demo showed a 1.45 Gb HD movie copied from one machine to another in about 20 seconds. In fact, the Ultrabooks and the chips they're built on are created with large file sizes in mind. In other words, the day when movies can be copied and moved as easily as songs is growing very near. The demos made a point of showcasing the M-GO app from Technicolor. Otellini announced a partnership with Technicolor and Dreamworks Animation for M-GO content, coming this year. The M-GO app is a video store (with movies, TV and other content) that can also provide second-screen bonus content. Another demo from Addidas VP Chris Aubrey showed a wall-sized video screen for selecting and ordering athletic shoes, with video and reviews built in. The transaction can continue on a tablet. The screens will be demoed further at several London locations during this summer's Olympics. Contact David S. Cohen at david.cohen@variety.com

First Released: The month of january 9, 2012 3:13 PM EST Credit: Getty Premium La, Calif. -- Caption Rainey Qualley and her mother, Andie MacDowell, go to the Samsung Universe Tab Lift, Sundance, Park City, Utah, on The month of january 23, 2011Andie MacDowells daughter, Rainey Qualley, will require happens as Miss Golden Globe on Sunday, and also the veteran supermodel and actress told AccessHollywood.com shes thrilled on her all-grown-up little girl. [It had been] an entire surprise, Andie told AccessHollywood.com on Monday of her daughter being employed for that on-stage publish, one formerly held by Melanie Griffith (and several years later, Melanies own daughter, Dakota Manley), Laura Dern, Joely Fisher, Clint Eastwoods daughter Kathryn Eastwood and Rumer Willis. [Im] so grateful on her, Andie ongoing of Rainey, a songwriter and actress. Shes working very hard to allow it to be within this business. Although Andie has been around showbusiness for a long time, including within the new ABC Family show Jane By Design, which she was marketing in the Television Experts Association Winter Session on Monday, Andie stated it hasnt been simple to give Rainey suggestions about her approaching gig in the Golden Globes. I havent a lot because I havent really done anything the same as that, she told Access. I attempted to speak to her about how exactly shes gonna dress and also to look and find out what everyone else is putting on and outdoors of this, I viewed the videos [showing what] she needed to do. I'd no clue just how much responsibility there actually was by using it. Theres lots of responsibility You need to be articulate. Shes a wise girl and shes got an attractive heart, so Im wishing everything goes very well on her. A large number of stars are going to attend Sundays large event, located by Ough Gervais, but Andie thinks her daughter will handle her on stage position, which sees her assisting the those who win on stage, all right. I recall the first time I visited the Oscars was probably the most interesting experience, so despite the fact that Id already had lots of success at that time, I'd not necessarily resided here, and so i hadnt partied with everybody greatly. I'd a kind of naivete about myself so far as still finding yourself in awe of my peers which i placed on a pedestal, which i appreciated there work. I recall escaping . of the vehicle and Angelica Huston turning around on and on Hello Andie, also it was like I'd just became a member of the club or something like that. And That I was like, Hello Anjelica, but for the relaxation from the evening, everyone known as me by my name. Id never met them before.
